Work has started to switch off many of the street lights in Hertfordshire at night. This is to save energy and reduce Herts CC's electricity bill, paid through our council tax. Some lights will remain on all night, for example where there is significant pedestrian activity, at busier road junctions and where there is a road obstruction such as a roundabout or central island. The conversion work in our area started in the last week of January. The process should take 3-4 weeks. Following conversion it will take 2-3 nights for the new photocells to start switching lights off around midnight and back on around 6am.
