You can now buy corn starch bags to line your kitchen caddy, making the business of storing food waste and transferring it to the brown bin easier and cleaner.
Until now,the composting site has been reluctant to accept corn starch bags, but it has now been agreed that bags of a certain type, issued by the Council, can be used. So please only use these. Of course you can still put your food waste directly into the brown bin, wrap it in newspaper or put it in an old cardboard carton if you prefer.
Please do not use plastic bags, whether they are bio-degradable or not. Council supplied caddy bags can be purchased from various locations across the district at £2.50 for a roll of 52. The nearest suppliers to Eastbury are:-
Three Rivers House, Northway, Rickmansworth
Moor Park Post Office, 8 Main Parade, Moor Park
Watford Rural Parish Council, Oxhey Drive, South Oxhey
If in doubt, leave it out
Contamination of waste occurs when non-compostable items are placed in the brown bin. Please take extra care with the waste you put in your brown bin. Visit http://www.threerivers.gov.uk/Default.aspx/Web/BrownBins to find out more about what can be recycled at the kerbside.
