Restricted Road Gritting - Batchworth Lane

The Department of Transport has requested all County Councils to temporarily reduce its salting routes to help ease the pressure on national salt supplies. Details of the roads included for Three Rivers and Watford can be found by clicking here. For comprehensive information visit the Hertfordshire website by clicking here.
The only roads in our area on the list are Watford Road and Sandy Lane. This means that Batchworth Lane, Bourne End Road and Westbury Road will NOT be gritted.

There is pothole damage to many of our roads and Herts Highways are beginning immediate repairs where safety requires it. As the snow clears please continue to report potholes to the  Highway Faults line tel: 01923 471320 or click here to report via their website.

Woodland Management – Batchworth Lane Recreation Ground

Coppice Some of you may have noticed that work has commenced on the copse near the play area.  At a past Local Area Forum it was suggested to TRDC that this area of trees and undergrowth needed a tidy up. Local Councillors and Committee members are satisfied with the work carried out so far. Both parties are sensitive to the issues raised during the work which took place at Oxhey Woods earlier this year and have been involved with the work along Batchworth Lane. Some of the trees in the copse were diseased or considered dangerous and therefore had to be removed. Other trees were covered in ivy which was inhibiting the growth of the trees and other woodland plants. Please be assured that the work carried out is necessary to help stimulate the growth of the other plants and trees and the area will look better in the spring and summer.

For more general information on the coppicing of trees click here.

Your Committee is also working alongside Herts Highways on various issues including overhanging trees, footpath management and grass verges in order to improve the appearance and safety of our area. The latest information can be found by visiting the Environment and Roads page.

Northwood Library

Northwood Library was officially opened by the Hillingdon Mayor on Thursday 22nd October. Known to local residents as ‘Oaklands Gate Library’ in the past, our new-look library not only has a new title but also new, increased opening hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 9.00am to 6.00pm
Thursday: 9.00am to 7.00pm
Saturday: 9.00am to 5.00pm

The ground floor has a much more open feel to it with a coffee bar area in front of the reception desk. With so much information available on our home computers many of us have got out of the habit of visiting the library, but it is well worth checking out the new Northwood Library; it has lots to offer.

New Traffic Lights

Work has commenced on Phase 2 of the Green Lane development project. This comprises the installation of traffic signals at the junction with Eastbury Road, the introduction of a 20mph speed limit between Dene Road and Watford Road, a new pedestrian crossing near the Watford Road roundabout, traffic calming measures between Watford Road and Hallowell Road and the reversal of traffic flow in Rowland Place. Work should be finished by late Spring 2010.

London Borough of Hillingdon is also in consultation with Transport for London in order to make changes to the road layout in Station Approach. More information is awaited.

HillingdonFirst - Sharmans Pharmacy & Carter Chemist

In a significant development two local businesses have indicated their intention to withdraw from the HillingdonFirst scheme. Sharmans Pharmacy and Carter Chemist and Ability have stated that it was never their intention to disadvantage residents of Eastbury and that they support the ERA's campaign to fight for equality for all residents of Northwood.
The businesses wish it to be known that all their offers are available to all their customers and not just to holders of the HillingdonFirst card.

Wheelie Bins

Neighbourhood WatchWheelie bins,we either love them or hate them !
Burglars love them because they provide a pretty good idea if you are at home on 'bin'day. If your wheelie bin is still out long after the refuse collection has been and gone, then the chances are,you are out. Nobody has invented the self-return wheelie bin yet so how about becoming a 'Bin Buddy'.

HillingdonFirst - shop discounts

The HillingdonFirst card offers cardholders discounts at participating shops and businesses.

The ERA has written to those businesses in Northwood who are participating in the scheme to ask if the discounts on offer are also available to ERA members. For a copy of the letter click here.

23 businesses were contacted of which, disappointingly, only 9 have replied so far. To see a summary of those results please click here.
